Curtis “CJ” Jefferson: singer, songwriter, producer, and musician, was born and raised in the north city of St. Louis, MO. Son of a preacher, so there’s no question where his soulful roots comes from, he began his musical journey in his youth. It’s during this time he evolved as a musician and singer, playing for different choirs and gospel groups, both locally and on the road.
CJ’s first break in the biz came when he toured with the legendary lead singer of the Temptations, Dennis Edwards, in the Temptations Review. That year he also found time to tour with the hit play "Only the Strong", starring Fred Hammond, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Marvin Sapp.
A year later, CJ formed a group known as Ol' Skool, which was discovered by Grammy Nominee Keith Sweat. The group was signed to Universal Records, leading to Ol' Skool’s hit single remake "Am I Dreaming", featuring Xscape and Keith Sweat. It was number one for several weeks from the self-entitled album. During that experience, he wrote and produced for hit artists such as: Keith Sweat, Dru Hill, Keke Wyatt, Toni Braxton, The Isley Brothers and many more. As time went on, CJ performed, produced, and wrote music for many award-winning albums.
In 2012, CJ took his talents to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, where he performed rock, pop, country, gospel, jazz, and of course R&B soul in various theaters. In 2016, he established CDJ productions, with a motto of “preserving music of the past by presenting it in a new and fun way”. He produced and starred in a variety show at the Starlight Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where he was the Producer, Director and Front Man of this show. It began the company’s odyssey of creating a new type of entertainment, “bringing some soul to the Smokies”.
He went back touring with the Temptations from 2016 to 2019, singing their greatest hits while working on his personal projects. In 2019, he also joined a residency with the Soul of Motown at the infamous Westgate Las Vegas Resort. Later on that year, he was asked to be a part of the legendary group The Mighty Spinners by the original founder Mr. Henry Frambrough. His unique take on entertainment is sure to rock the crowd for years to come.
